Ever since girls and boys are born, there are differences in the way we are taught to relate to our bodies. Basically, on one hand, boys are taught to see their bodies as a tool to master the environment. Girls on the other hand are taught to constantly work on their bodies, as a constant project. The body has to be endured, to be transformed, it is viewed as a « burden », and that starts with menstruation, you’ve probably heard of PMS (pre menstrual syndrom), it continues with pregnancy, and follows up with menopause.
Throughout the month, the female body goes through a variation a hormones which influence our state of mind and our comfort. Those variations depend on everybody, some women suffer more than others from those changes. In this article I would like to share a few informations on how we can regain our power and focus better on our lives and the things we have to do. Our body is our best friend if we learn how it works and pay attention to the signs it sends us. Some tasks are more effective in some phases of our cycle and our mood swings can be managed better.
The menstrual cycle is made of four phases :
- Day 1 to 7 is the menstrual phase, during this time you are more aware of feelings, you are sensitive and may cry easily. If you need to evaluate things or make assessments, this time is good for that. You need to slow down a little bit, go to bed early and practice soft exercise such as yoga, relaxation, walking.
- Day 7 to 14 is called the follicular phase, the dominant hormone is Estrogen. During this time if you engage in creative work, you will have a lot of ideas, that’s when you can work on projects, make plans, you feel energetic and you are productive.
- Day 14 to 21 is the ovulatory phase. During this time the feminine hormones reach a pic and you feel like communicating a lot more than the rest of the time. If you have important conversations to have, you will be well disposed to do so.
- Day 21 to 28 is the luteal phase, this is usually when you may feel more grumpy than normal, you feel annoyed by the things you tolerate otherwise (somebody chewing loudly, certain smells, etc.). In other words, you are more detail oriented, and more organised. If you have to do tasks which require those qualities, it’s time to do them. Be aware that your Partner or people around you may annoy you more than usual, it’s normal, it will pass. You feel hungry and crave sweet and fat food, but you should avoid those because they may worsen the PMS.
If you want to learn more about the subject, you can google it, and find out about what food, what exercise are best according to the phase in which you are if you want to lose weight. I Believe that knowing ourselves is the key to a successful life. There are many apps which can help you know on what phase you are, but little by little you will know it as you become more used to your signs. Doing this will help us commit to a better relationship with our body, to leverage our body as a power tool to master the world and not just endure it.
I hope you found this useful. Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe if you’re not already.
Let’s take care of ourselves.
See you around !
