Why Did You Start Blogging ?

Do you remember the first time you took the decision to start a blog ? What did you have in mind ? What did you want to talk about ?

How has your writing evolve ? Do you feel that You had to change and adapt your content depending on what people read/liked the most ?

A piece of me

I remember that I love to write, writing became a way for me to talk about the things I couldn’t tell anyone else in teenage. I came from Cameroon to live with my dad in France. At fifteen, I was still into playing with my dolls and toys, I wasn’t much into make up, boys and other fashion. I was not in tune with the kids of my age in middle school, so I didn’t have many friends, Added to the fact that I was new in town, in the country. Still, I had things to say, I loved exchanging and talking, I missed Cameroon and had not kept in touch with my friends there.

That’s when I started writing, it was basically journaling at the time and not online eventhough it was already a thing to have an online space. I noticed that it soothed me and helped me a lot. As I grew up, things changed, I made new friends, and adapted very well to my new environment; high school was far better, I went to boarding school, so everybody was new there, we were at the same level. Ever since I feel like dealing with strugles, I write it down, If I want to share my ideas, I write them down. I prefer writing than talking on the phone.

When I decided to start the blog, I had the impression that I had a lot of things to say, to talk about. But I realised that I Don’t want my blog to be about my personal life eventhough I may share a few things about me.

My Relationship to this space has also Evolved. I remember that in the beginning I was quite anxious about whether or not people would be interested in what I had to say. I discovered that everybody has a say here in the blogosphere. Then I was anxious about the figures, the number of views, likes, comments, I even wrote about why people are passive. But little by little, I saw that people follow me, interact with me, some days I get more views, some other I get less visitors, and I just decided that I would be fine either ways.

The essential

What I can keep from my Journey here as a blogger is that, readers come and go, we get distracted by so many people. We can’t follow everybody intensively, I can’t. Sometimes I’m very inspired and write several posts in a row, and some other times I have no idea what to talk about. It is all good. I have also noticed that I feel more comfortable when I write in English, but maybe that’s because most of the readers with whom I interact are English speakers, I Don’t know. The English lectorate is more open to random subjects, when the French lectorate seems to be more keen on fashion stuffs (which I Don’t do much except for a few articles on natural beauty and hair care).

As this year comes to an end, I embrace the ups and downs of life, the full moments and the empty ones, in the end it all comes to an equilibrium I think. The most important is to feel content and not blame oneself for not achieving this or that.

What’s your keep for 2018 ?

Let’s take care of ourselves.

See you around !

🙂 I started blogging many years ago when I saw a blog on Blogger and said to myself, « I can do that! »

I will admit, that my writing style has evolved (I am way better at blogging today).

What would I keep from 2018? *shrugs* Usually I try to clean slate the new year, so I was preparing the slam the door on 2018 for good. I don’t actually know what I want to keep, but I want to find out! Thanks for the food for thought.

I started a blog, or two in the past. One was supposed to be rather personal like a diary, while another one was supposed to be more psychological/ analytical. I always had things to say, but I wasn’t sure how to do it so that others would read. Neither one of the blogs went past a post or two.

I think we are all evolving in our writing, and adapting.

  7. I started blogging to talk about my research. I don’t know about « changed », but I’ve certainly « adapted » when it comes to what I write about.
