Here we are ! Today is our last Week with Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. It has been a real joy for me to share these tips with you guys, I gave them to you separately on purpose because I think it’s easier to Apply one habit at a time, most of the time when we read several tips in a row, we Don’t remember half of it.

Okay, let’s dive in !

Habit 7 : Sharpen your soul.

This last habit is a lifelong one, the other ones too, but let’s say that this habit is one which can make the other ones easier. Stephen Covey tells us that effective people seek to develop and improve themselves continuously throughout their life.

It’s really a thing nowadays to work on oneself, to develop oneself, it’s a good thing in my opinion.

the goal in developing and improving ourselves is to live a life which is meaningful. What does that mean ? It means a life which respects one’s principles and values. These principles are :

  • Timeless, unchangeable.
  • They have ends (whats) and means (hows).
  • They meet our natural need to live, to love and be loved, to grow and be recognized, our need for meaning and spiritual meaning.

According to Covey, every human being wants to live, love, learn, leave a legacy.

He concludes his essay by saying that :

  1. Life is a mission, not a career.

  2. We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

There are so many things we can do today to improve ourselves, they Don’t Always require money or any investment but our engagement and will. Sometimes it’s hard to do it on our own, it can be good to surround ourselves with people who are already on the way of self developing. You can read books, attend conferences, talk to people here on WordPress. There are thousands of videos on YouTube. It’s hard today not to find how to become a better version of ourselves. You can start by visiting my previous article on how to make our life more simple.

That said, it shouldn’t become a burden either, self improvement is not an end, it’s a mean, it’s a Journey and it’s never finished. Finding ways to do it should remain fun and Pleasant, if it’s not then you should find other ways, until you feel comfortable.

How do you sharpen your soul ? Tell us in the comment section below, you might help someone who has no clue how to do it. Thanks in advance for them.

Let’s take care of ourselves.

See you around !

I often have this discussion with my husband. He feels that he has to leave something behind, I’m not exactly in that mood. Or at least I don’t see legacy as necessarily a big thing.

      1. What if the legacy was dependent on the overall goal. Could a legacy be a will?

      2. I don’t look at a legacy per say as anything other than passing things down. That the next generation can use to continue the “fight”.

That’s my feeling too, the mere fact that I agree to have children means that I choose to pass something on, I might not do great things myself, but maybe the citizens I contribute to form will, who knows ?

      4. It all depends on what you are providing them to use as their armor or their sword. Is it money or is it lessons learned? Could it be to embolden their spirit or simply teach them how to interact and to gain followers? I think a legacy is very important.

It is. How do you feel about it ? What do you want to leave behind ? What do you want to be remembered for ?

      6. It’s not so much I want to be remembered. More or less it’s how I prepare my kids for the world ahead.
